Interior Design Trends for 2023

  • AROUND
  • 2022-12-29

The interior design trends for 2023 are bright and diverse. There are some new colors, new textures and new materials, but most importantly, new moods. Most of them mainly revolve around a sense of SPA tranquility or a fun and patterned decorative sense of joy.

Recently, the way how people decorate their homes has changed. First of all, the focus goes to beauty – we try to make the brain think more positively and we can do this by surrounding ourselves with things that make us happy.

Overall, it’s going for sophistication, but in a more relaxed way than ever before. The sense of luxury remains very important, but at the same time there is a desire to make it accessible and more comfortable. People still want their spaces to look grand, but materials and textures are less formal. There is an aim for the WOW factor, but comfort comes alongside. It’s also felt in people’s everyday life, when it was realized that one can be just as smart without a tie, high heels can be exchanged for comfortable sports shoes, etc. This trend is reflected in many areas, including in the interior, and it is believed that will last longer – not only in 2023.

So, what are the biggest interior design trends for the year 2023? Grab it for your own inspirations.

Micro Luxury

The micro-luxury interior design trend is beginning to flourish due to the ever-increasing demand for luxury interiors along with tighter budgets. “Micro luxury” means that all attention is focused on one specific element or one zone, but not absolutely on the entire interior. It can be a bathroom with a marble effect, gold-colored faucets or decorations, or a wardrobe worthy of the name of a luxury boutique.

“Micro-luxury” can also mean practical elements of a room that are simply more comfortable: like a larger bath or a dining area even in a small apartment, to make it feel special, no matter you have guests over or usually eat alone.

Such single elements can give the interior “weight”, coziness and create the effect of luxury and pleasure. Due to this combination of investment and savings, this trend is gaining momentum.

Bends, Arches, Curves

If straight lines at home became boring, modernist curves are the ideal alternative to change everything. Arches, rounded furniture and a slightly more playful choice of minimal design create a completely new style.

Arched doorways, wall recesses and shelves can be used to create a style that gives your home interesting shapes and volumes, creating a sense of uniqueness. This is an interior design trend that will make your home truly unique and cozy.

Japandi

Japandi is a new trend in 21st century interior design. It is a cultural fusion of two different interior design styles, creating one hybrid new type. This involves combining traditional Japanese minimalism with the post-modern, minimalist yet soothing Scandinavian design style.

Both styles have long been popular decorating choices around the world, and their combination has created a global craze. Today’s hybrid decor style has taken aesthetics to a whole new level, bringing nature, nurture and neutrality into the comfort of your everyday living space.

Japandi is not only a mixture of two different genres, but also two different cultural perspectives. This design is inspired by the traditional Japanese philosophy and way of life known as Wabi-Sabi, which welcomes the imperfections of everyday life, finding beauty and sentimentality in every object and situation. The new style combines the imperfection of natural beauty and the Scandinavian sense of hygge, emphasizing environmental comfort and self-nurturing.

So why is Japandi style so appealing? The aim of this design is to create a zen atmosphere in any living space by combining old and new elements. Japanese design uses richer, warmer hues with natural neutrals. Also using neutral shades and soft textures, the Nordic aesthetic embraces lightness and comfort. Combining all together, simplicity and a pleasant environment create a truly cozy and warm atmosphere.

“Dark Academia” style

Characterized by fall colors, vintage clothing, the romanticization of arts education, the pursuit of knowledge, and occasional detective mysteries, Dark Academia’s style draws on the campus novel – a genre that itself provides clues as to why this subculture flourished.

Already in 2021 this interior trend was called the most unexpected interior obsession with a veil of darkness and an endless variety of strange treasures. Think of Hogwarts, but much more stylish. Moreover at the end of 2022 a streaming TV show “Wednesday” gave one more sparkle for this trend to grow.

Like many trends today, the Dark Academia style was popularized by the social platform TikTok. And beyond the digital world, a new trend is emerging with earthy color palettes, restored antiques and natural-toned furniture.

There are many ways to incorporate elements of the Dark Academia trend into your home without the risk of making your decor look dated. This trend is perfectly friendly with the principles of timeless design, because it includes a lot of classic design features that never go out of fashion.

Colour

Each year, it is customary to announce the “Top” color of the year, which is even named by a specific color code, but in recent years there is a feeling that people no longer want to be the same, they don’t want “blind” and specific rules and strict frames. Among the richly used earthy and natural color palettes, bright and eye-catching colors emerge with the gradually reviving Art Deco style, as well as eye-catching elements of dark blue marble pattern or details of Mediterranean ornaments that highlight the idea of creating a SPA feeling and tranquility in the interior. As clothing stylists already declare that “there is no fashionable color, there is just a color that suits a person’s skin, eyes and hair”, so the interior has a general picture of the environment that makes a person feel good in it.

However, if your inspirations starts with a colour, consider sage and grey-green, terracotta/clay tones or pale sand, ivory or classic white/milk.

Looking at these interior design trends, it’s worth thinking about your own personal preferences. Some wants to have a simple area, others – something absolutely unique and attention-grabbing. Trends allow us to understand which decor suits your personality the best. In short, it is worth looking into the ideas that each of the possible aesthetic options can offer. Whether it’s a hint of luxury, an oasis of comfort, or an absolutely individual approach to style and quality of life.
