170km Long Mirrored Skyscraper in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi Arabian government has revealed designs for The Line, a linear city that will be constructed on the Red Sea as a part of Neom. The megastructure will stretch for 170 kilometers in northwestern Saudi Arabia and feature mirror-like facades. The Line will stand at an impressive height of 500 meters, but with a narrow width of only 200 meters.

Planned as part of the Neom development, The Line is expected to provide a dramatic alternative to traditional cities that typically expand from a central point.

The objective of “The Line” is to usher in a civilizational revolution that prioritizes people, by implementing radical transformations in urban planning. This project aims to challenge the conventional flat cities and create a blueprint for preserving nature and enhancing human life. “The Line” intends to tackle the present-day obstacles that humanity faces in the traditional city lifestyle and present alternative ways of living.

The formation will comprise of two wall-like structures with an open space separating them. These twin structures, standing at 500 meters tall, will rank as the 12th tallest building globally and also hold the record for being the longest.

The construction will accommodate a staggering 9 million inhabitants and encompass shopping and leisure zones, educational institutions, and recreational parks. The exceptional design will showcase a mirrored exterior facade that harmonizes with nature and lends it a distinct identity, while the city will be crafted to curate an atmosphere of exceptional encounters and enchanting moments.

The transportation network, spanning the entire megastructure, is crafted to facilitate travel from one end of the city to the other in just 20 minutes. As per the Saudi Arabian government’s plans, the development will run on renewable energy, in line with their vision of creating a sustainable city.

The Line is part of the Neom project, where people from all over the world will be able to show off their creativity and innovation. The Neom project is part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 drive to diversify its economy and become less dependent on oil.

It’s worth noting that the project remains a vision at this stage. As with many groundbreaking concepts, this proposal has drawn criticism due to its impact on the environment and its sustainability. Only time will tell whether this ambitious project can be successfully executed.
